This is a very faithful copy of Ortelius’ Islandia. It was unknown for a long time who had
made this map, but it is now known that it appeared in Theatre Geographique, an atlas published by Jean Boisseau in Paris in 1648. The most noticeable difference between the two is that the capital letters marking each monster on the Ortelius are absent on this later map, and the dedication to
Frederick II in the lower right corner has been replaced by a short description of the country, in Latin.
