[Bordone’s World map]

YEAR 1528

Iceland is only a small dot, as is to be expected, and it appears to me to be aligned more in a N/S direction. Scandinavia is according to the Ulm map. The map reflects the general knowledge of the world in Europe at this time. America had recently been discovered for the third time (the first to find it were, of course, the people who Columbus would wrongly call Indians, the second Leif the Lucky Eiriksson). Asia is very much out of shape and there is no Australia. Asia and America are separated, contrary to what was often believed before this time.
