Jodocus Hondius (a Latinized version of his Dutch name: Joost de Hondt) (1563 –1612) was a Flemish engraver and cartographer. He is often referred to as Sr. or the Elder, to distinguish him from his son Jodocus Hondius Jr., who took over his cartography business, along with his brother Henricus and brother-in-law, Jan Janssonius. Jodocus Hondius Jr. is best known for his early maps and for re-establishing the reputation of the work of Gerard Mercator.
